Is There a Communications Issue or is the Solar System Off?

SolarFax data allows you to quickly know the difference between a simple inverter communications issue (low urgency) and a system that is not producing energy (high urgency).

When you only have inverter data, you can’t tell whether the problem is related to inverter communications (like an expired cell card or Wi-Fi connection) or if the system is not producing any energy.   This shows the limitations of monitoring solar production using only the inverter data and the value and benefit of incorporating energy consumption data into your analysis.

Two Inverter Communications Scenarios:

Scenario 1:  The inverter app shows no energy production but the solar is still pushing energy to the grid.  This could be a simple Wi-Fi issue that could be resolved over the phone.

Scenario 2:  The inverter app shows no energy production, and there is NO energy going to the grid.  This means the system is most likely off and requires immediate attention!

The key to knowing which scenario you are facing is having your customer’s smart meter data.  Reduce avoidable service truck rolls and get ahead of serious inverter issues with SolarFax!
